Why RORO, Not Container?
Heavy machinery is not suitable for container shipping — RORO is the best choice
Heavy machinery exceeds standard container size limits (40ft: 12m x 2.3m x 2.6m) — RORO has no dimension restrictions.
Machinery weight often exceeds container weight limits (~26 tonnes) — RORO can accommodate machinery over 30 tonnes.
No disassembly required — machinery shipped intact, reducing damage risk.
Faster and easier loading — machinery driven or towed directly onto vessel deck.
Lower cost — no container rental, disassembly or reassembly charges.
Suitable for all types of heavy machinery including excavators, cranes and tracked equipment.
Container Limitations vs RORO Advantages
| Aspect | Container | RORO |
|---|---|---|
| Size Limit | Limited to container internal dimensions (L: 12m, W: 2.3m, H: 2.6m for 40ft) | No dimension limits — machinery driven directly onto vessel deck |
| Weight Limit | Max ~26 tonnes for 40ft container | Can accommodate machinery exceeding 30 tonnes |
| Disassembly | Large machinery must be disassembled to fit inside container | Machinery shipped intact — no disassembly required |
| Loading | Requires crane or forklift to load into container | Machinery driven or towed directly onto vessel |
| Damage Risk | Risk of damage during disassembly & reassembly | Minimal damage risk — no disassembly needed |
| Cost | More expensive — container rental + disassembly/reassembly costs | More economical — per CBM rate without additional container costs |
